Hi,

2 days ago, I've successfully installed my fully licensed version 1.8.4 of Alive.
On that day I had internet connection, so that downloads and activation worked fine.
There were no errors when running Alive. All parts of the software seemed to work without any doubts.

Yesterday, I wanted to make a nice presentation - without internet connection far away from my office.

I was quite surprised with an alert telling that a newer vesion of unity web player was needed.
Hm, not amused.
What cracks me up is, that my beloved alive rejects functioning during program init, just to check, if there is a much more actual version of a thirdparty product, which was properly running 2 days before. I did not give me any chance to go on. Manual update option was meaningsless. I could not find a solution.
Sorry, that is a showstopper.
With internet connected again, there was no download action - saying no need for update.

Where is the need to give unity information when I'm working ?
Ryan, where can I find the setting to decide of updates on my own decision and responsibility ?

For the time being, I would be happy with an alive that works without internet connection.

Hi Marc,

So sorry about that. Alive 1.8.4 makes use of a 3rd party plugin from Unity that has some weird internet requirements occasionally. Normally once you run Alive a single time while connected to the Internet, it doesn't bother you anymore.

There are a couple of things you can do:
1) Open your hard drive (C) and open Program Files (x86). Open the Alive folder. As long as you have installed the latest version of Alive (1.8.4) you'll see a file "Add_Alive_Standalone". If you do, run this file by double clicking it.

You will then have a new Standalone folder in the Alive start menu folder. Open your Start Menu -> Programs -> Alive -> Standalone and open Alive from this new Standalone folder in your start menu. When you open Alive you will have an initial dialog box where you need to choose a resolution, I suggest you choose the second or third largest one.

This Standalone version of Alive doesn't require the Unity web player, but isn't as nice as you have to choose a resolution each time.

2) Install the Alive 2.0 beta. Alive 2.0 doesn't require Unity Web Player:

great, that helps.
Its just a pitty, that the resolution cannot be selected for 1080p.

Can the V2.0 be installed in parallel to V1.8.4 ?
If not, will I be able to install V1.8.4 again with the same activation key ( on the same hardware) without support ?

Hi Marc,

I think you should be fine with just Alive 2.0. I'm not sure if they can be installed in parallels, we haven't tried.

Alive 2.0 will modify your Alive Sessions folder, so in case you want to reinstall 1.8.4 after, I would first make a copy of your entire Alive Sessions folder (in your documents folder just duplicate Alive Sessions or copy it to another location).

Alive 2.0 is pretty much ready for release, and if you have any issues, we can fix them if you report them.
