What is the difference between heart rate and avg heart rate

I wanted to ask you, What is the difference between the heart rate section and the avg heart rate section in the progress review?

Heart rate goes up and down, as you see in the heart rate graphs in Alive. If you are viewing a single session review, looking at average heart rate you will see the average of a number of heart beats. This average heart rate, if it rises, can indicate a higher level of stress or physical exertion. If average heart rate lowers this is a sign of relaxation. The heart rate itself rises and falls with each breath, which is how we calculate smoothness, but looking at the average you see a different piece of important information.

If you are looking at the single session review, these two graphs will look very different, and show substantially different information.

Looking at a progress review there is less difference, especially if you are looking at the average of the heart rate for a whole session, in which case the average of the average, will be similar to the average of the heart rate itself.

I'm interested in buying Alive however, i need to hear more about research purposes expiriences with Alive.
Is there any articles which were published and used alive as their mean to calculate skin conductance and heart rate?
Where can i get information regarding sampling rates and technical terms?

Sorry, I missed this, but the general idea is that we want to eliminate the breathing changes to display an average heart rate not strongly affected by breathing. There are various different average hr calculations that happen in different parts of Alive, between around 8 seconds (where you would still see some breathing affects) to around 30 seconds depending on the application. If you let me know specifically where you are looking (in review? training average hr?) I'll give you more info.
